We only get 25% off food and treatment and this is currently under review, as a couple of staff have complained.
We don't get sick pay.
We do get 28 days holiday - but don't get paid for Bank holidays

RE: What are your practice perks?

We get 28 days holiday (including BH's), free consult/surgical time then cost price + VAT for meds/lab fees etc. Cost price for food plus Hills staff feeding vouchers. RCVS fees paid & up to £200 CPD. Pension contributions are the minimum 1% and we had to give up a pay rise to opt into this. Tunic tops supplied grudgingly (have had 4 new ones in 4 years) but have to provide our own trousers.

Working for Vets4pets you get the standard benefits they offer which is 20% off any Pets at home products including Ridaway, company pension, up to £500 CPD and that's about it. As practices are all owned by individual JVP's you may get other benefits such as cost price food, drugs & services. this is not the case in all practices though as my JVP's have decided we must pay FULL price for everything with just the company 20% discount. I have to say that this is the first time in 30 years of nursing that I have had to pay full price for anything and had the constant worry of not being able to afford treatment for my 3 furry purry children (of which all of them have been rescued by me from the practice) if and when they may need it :(

Where I am we get our free royal canin through the rep, bank holidays and 4 days off each for xmas and new year, and further qualifications/certificates/CPD is paid for at the discretion of the practice manager depending on what it is/how useful it is for the practice/how much it costs. We do get a wee discount on meds but nowhere near cost, and we don't pay for surgical time/procedure time if our pets are being treated, but I feel like most other practices get much better pet treatment than that? I'm not sniffing at all the bank holidays though, I wouldn't give those up for the world at the moment!

RE: What are your practice perks?

At my current practice we get free vaccines, flea & worm treatment, other meds we get charged cost price for. Food we have an allowance based on sales so varies on amount but generally I've never had to buy any pet food. We get 28 days holiday including bank holidays, weekends we don't get paid for but do get a day off in leu for half a Saturdays work!

At my last practice we got a yearly shoe allowance which was later replaced with a pair of crocs, a yearly food/meds allowance which increased each year, standard 28 days holiday including bank holidays.

RE: What are your practice perks?

Perks have varied vastly from practice to practice.

1. none (consider yourself lucky to work here buddy)

2. time off on my birthday

3. additional holiday entitlement after 5 years, then 10 years, then 15 years loyal service

3. cost price on everything

4. 20% off food only

5. 20% on everything

6. Meal vouchers

7. Paid sick leave: full pay for 3 months followed by half pay for 3 months.

8. No sick pay, just SSP

9. 1 week paid sick leave at full pay after probation and thereafter 2 weeks at full pay followed by 3 weeks at half pay.

10. Paid RCVS subs

11. Paid BVNA subs

12. Provided footwear (theatre / indoors)

13. CPD allowance: some on application (ad-hoc), some an annual allowance, some a team allowance and you had to fight for it

14. Paid overtime

15. No overtime paid, just suck it up and be faster

16. Accommodation provided at a discount or with deductions from pay

17. Free accommodation provided for 3 months and then you had to be out

18. Weekend and OOH work paid for by: one-off payments; hourly rate; combination of the previous two.

19: annual salary review (sometimes just inflationary rise, but we still got something!)

20: annual one-off £ bonus depending on practice performance

21: Christmas bonus (food, chockkies, wine, spirits and vouchers)

22. Gym membership

23. Medical insurance

24.Pension contributions

think that's it.

As I said, it's practice and practice management dependent. No one size fits all!
