I was just after a bit of advice. I am planning to move out of home in the next few months and unfortunately I won't be taking my 2 dogs with me (I don't think its fair to move them at their age of 11 & 10 yo). I was hoping to get my very own dog

RE: Making time for your own pets?

I usually borrow my aunts puppy and take him out :) I'd have to leave a dog home alone for a long time so I dont feel like it would be fair to have one of my own. I do have a very independent indoor cat though :) She usually sleeps in my room all day (even if other people are in the house she's quite happy to ignore them) and then comes out for a cuddle once I'm home. We've kinda fallen into a little routine :)

RE: Making time for your own pets?

I would love to have another dog (always had dogs when I was younger) I miss having a dog but I figure the amount of time I spend at home it isn't fair. At the moment I have two cats and they pretty much keep themselves happy and don't seem to care about my irregular appearances so long as there is food in the bowl. They even make the effort to do the meet and greet thing (sometimes) when I come home

RE: Making time for your own pets?

Retired Greyhounds are ideal

RE: Making time for your own pets?

Will you be living far from your previous address / existing pets? It might give you the best of both worlds to be able to visit them regularly for 'happy' times without worrying about whether you are giving them enough time as they have other company too. Once you are settled in your new place you may have a better idea of what sort of time you will have. I know many veterinary workers are able to take their dogs to work with them so they aren't left alone in the house all day. I think for full-time workers an older cat (or pair of cats) makes an ideal pet as they tend to sleep quite a bit and don't need as much attention as dogs. Or maybe small furries such as rats or guinea pigs??
