I was wondering if anyone could help, we are currently considering taking on a veterinary receptionist, currently the nurses do all of the reception work, but I'm unsure as to what the wage scale would be for a receptionist, we are looking for someone

RE: Wages - Veterinary receptionist

:-( such a shame as such an important role in practice, thanks for all your replies very helpful!

Like some have said the receptions are the people speak to see first so can make a huge impact on clients, surely it should be financially recognised!

RE: Wages - Veterinary receptionist

that is around the rate for a final year or just qualified nurse around here - so fits in with what I have come across before. I know its a different job entirely but most places I have worked use the newly qualified nurse rate as the rate they work around either up or down to decide what all the non vets in the practice will be paid.

RE: Wages - Veterinary receptionist

guess it depends on what level of capability you decide you need. Inexperienced, usually NMW. Experienced and therefore requires little training, whatever you need to pay to attract the right fit.

I think the best idea is NOT to compare it to a nurse wage as it is a different skill-set.

IMHO, getting the right person for the position is vital, as Reception is the first and last contact a client always has with a practice, so that it is common sense to have thoroughly competent and charismatic character on this front-line. So, decide what image and professional capabilities you need and then pay accordingly☺

RE: Wages - Veterinary receptionist

Depends on the area but normally minimum wage.
