I do 6 nights on 8 nights off....they're 12 hour shifts but you can sleep for a few hours between meds and if there's nothing critical in..

I've done 4 on 4 off in the past and found it to be more exhausting than my current rota. You need a decent break to get caught up on sleep..

I work 5 on 5 off 10 hour shifts and it's a good stretch. Less than that and I'd gave to do longer hours which I wouldn't like. 7 on 7 off would be a killer.

I work 12 hour night shifts 5 on 9 off, and I love it! 9 days off gives me enough time to allow for a day either side to switch from night mode back to day mode and not feel like I'm wasting my time off. I work Tues-Sat nights 8.30pm-8.30am, there is another nurse who works Tues-Sat the following week, and a third nurse who works every Sunday and Monday night. I used to do 7 on/7off and it was fine but I don't think I could have done it long term (I was a locum and did it for stints of about 3 months at a time). I personally wouldn't like 4 on/4 off as I'd feel like I was constantly shifting my sleeping pattern from days to nights.

hi, agree would struggle with 12/13 hr shifts; brutal. 10hr shifts are exhausting enough! Thinking of protecting mental and physical health!!

Suggest 8/8/8 rota per 24 hours. staffing depends on whether you hire dedicated day/evening/late workers or set up a rolling rota where, say, you work anyone of the 8hr shifts in a pattern. Something like... 5 day week: 40hrs. Week of 10am-7pm, week of 6pm-3am, week of 2am-11am. 1 hr lunch. There is no distinction between weekday and weekend working, you work a 5 day period with two full days off... So my shift pattern might be Tues-Sat working and Sun-Mon off every week.

If the shifts were a bit shorter then I'd say 7 on/7 off but I think I'd struggle with 7 12-13 hour shifts in a row! Given the lengths of the shifts then I'd say 4 on/4 off would be my preference.
