Yep I had this at a practice I left - an hour long lecture on how I was letting the practice down. After an hour of being talked at I just mentioned how they had let themselves down, hadn't learnt from any of their past mistakes, still didn't understand the very basics of looking after their staff and as a result they were still losing staff faster than they could recruit them.

By the time I got around to handing in my notice I was so hacked off with the practice I didn't actually care what they thought about me they couldn't make me feel any worse about the job than they had already done. As far as I was concerned it was just T-30

RE: leaving job etiquette

SO basically life goes on and they are within their rights to offer someone else the position and discuss adverts etc.. a really great boss would do you an exit interview and have your input about job descriptions and things but the truth is that life's just not like that, and people can be pretty insensitive.. remember though that is a business and at the end of the day as long as they don't change your job role without discussing it with you ( which is what happened to me! outrageous!) then there's not a lot you can do..

an awful lot can be told about a person by how they work their notice so hold your head high, leave with a smile on your face and let them get on with it! think positively and onwards and forwards to exciting new things! :) :)

RE: leaving job etiquette

Similar to me...the last few weeks it's like I don't exist at my practice anymore, I've been pushed out of my position by someone also leaving in a bit too! pointless! Stressful for me though not making my last few weeks that comfortable. And ofcourse its all my fault they've got no replacement and that the 'student' who isn't competent with GAs won't be able to do as much shadowing once I go. Gave my notice in last year,, they were not particularly happy but I needed to move on,, one of my co workers who had been after my position for some time, made it pretty obvious she was glad I was going! I was made to feel pretty crap, and treated as if I was nothing!! I gave them a lot of me, felt quite bitter if I'm honest,, but knew it was the right decision for me,, a few months on I'm settled in a new position, am so much happier too was a good decision,, hate to smirk tho, but hear the said person is now struggling with my position!!!

RE: leaving job etiquette

Well done if you have found a new job. Just think that you have an exciting new challenge ahead of you.

Don't dwell on it too much, I had a terrible experience with my last job after handing in my notice. I was totally excluded and bullied out of the door. But all is brilliant now in my new job. It was the best decision I ever made, it was worth all of the tears and stress I went through at the old place!!! Hold your head high and do your best, it'll soon be over. You'll be in the new place very shortly.

Well, presumably they're upset. Either because they like you, or because finding someone else is time-consuming / expensive, but probably both.
It hasn't been great-the day I handed my notice in-my job was offered to another member of staff whilst I was on my lunch-the SAME day...is this right?

so since I've given my notice in, I've no say in anything
I think you have to remember the first thing: they're upset. Upset people sometimes do upsetting things. I think in this situation, you have to just think to yourself that you've quit, and now the job is just to work through your notice period professionally and with dignity, rising above anything which you find galling or upsetting (like being excluded).
