I am enjoying it though!

RE: SJS training

I did this a few year's ago with the exams, found it to be a good starting point to get me back into studying (I did it when I was 30 so a few years since I'd picked up any study books) and it gave a good base level of knowledge to carry on to do the level 3. They were always prompt sending out packs and responding and helpful when needed so I never had any issues (other than me staying motivated as others have said!) Would recommend :)

I was keen to do it as I was anxious about it being so long since I had studied science (I'm 34) so was nervous about going straight into the level 3. Found I had to be really disciplined to get it done though as I would go through spurts of activity and then weeks would pass of not getting round to study anything - think my tutor probably wondered if I was still doing the course!

I liked that I could tailor the optional modules to suit my practice and interests whereas from my research on the college based courses I found you were stuck with the fixed list of modules. The timing was more flexible too as I didn't have to wait for term to start and could just get stuck in straight away. It also wasn't as long as the VCA so could fit in before I was due to start my SVN training in March this year. You get a text book and learning materials as well as short answer questions for each module and a few short tests.

Sometimes the turn around was a little slow but they were always willing to speak on the phone and took time to go through any concerns. I found having someone at work to talk to about it was essential - you have to have someone witness the practical parts and it was good to just discuss generally (could be a SVN, VN, RVN, Vet as long as more senior in experience than you).

Hope that helps a bit and let me know if you have any other questions x

RE: SJS training

I'm currently doing it now. I found it useful and gave me the background knowledge I needed for my VN training. The only problem I found with it was as it was a correspondence course, I needed to have self discipline to ensure i completed the work given. I would just say have good time management and ensure you set yourself a timetable to complete the work.
