Hi Lianne

See here: https://www.vetnurse.co.uk/jobs/w/veterinary-nursing-jobs-career-recruitment-advice/1080.locuming-guide.aspx

That page doesn't yet cover the self-employed/umbrella/ltd company question, which I've been researching, but I'm still clear as mud about! You get different answers from different people, even different answers from different tax offices, I am told.

Anyway, working on it, and hope to have some more constructive advice in the not-too-distant future.

He's sorting the stuff that i didnt know how to do and he'll inform me when i need to do anything further.

i know some locums are doing everything themselves so maybe one of them will respond too and let you know how theyre getting on

just be aware of the fees for the umbrella company - of course- i have to pay for the accountant and other stuff too anyway

RE: Locuming, umberella, ltd or self employed

Thanks Claire thats a great help. Think going with an umberella company then going ltd would be a good idea. I presume you just need to get in touch with an accountant and they will advise you from there.

Thanks

RE: Locuming, umberella, ltd or self employed

hi

I've been locuming a couple of years and have just set up as Ltd as previously used an umbrella company. at the start the umbrella was worth the weekly fee as they did everything for me regards tax, NI and chasing invoices and as I wasn't sure if I was going to locum long term it made sense.

however, since the changes re expenses and then paying employers and employees NI its not worth it.

No info on self employed route sorry but the ltd set up was fairly straightforward regards registering online etc but only cause my hubby is a ltd also (in a different field of work) so he was able to help me through it- not too sure I could've managed myself tbh :)

my only other concern is invoicing - I hate dealing with money issues but then recently my umbrella company needed chasing to chase my invoices anyway so tbh at least i'm in charge and not relying on someone else.

good luck
