My Youtube channel has some videos on exam nerves, and I've done a video with Recruit4Vets on OSCE myths too.

Google Jane RVN video and both are on playlists there,

Good Luck

RE: controlling nerves for OSCE's

Hi, thank you very much for the advice. I will try this tip out! I am also going to talk more and discuss steps with the examiners this time around. I am going to start rescue remedy/Kalms to help me in the run up to the exam as well. I may also get a hotel room so that I don't have to travel in the day to get to the place. Thank you much appreciated x

RE: controlling nerves for OSCE's

I found this extremely difficult too. I passed all my written exams with flying colours. But even though I revised like crazy for the OSCEs I failed (passed second time). For most people nerves are the issue rather than lack of knowledge. So i empathise entirely!

My tips are positive self talk. It sounds ridiculous, but I knew I struggled with practical exams so I constantly told myself throughout my 2 years at college that I would fail my OSCEs because of this. There is a degree of self-fulfilling prophecy when you do this. Second time round I kept telling myself "I know these inside out, I've been before so am more prepared, and this time I will pass". It helps a lot

Secondly, although it's rubbish, you can repeat them again. It's not the end of the world if you have to. You've come this far, if needs be you can go on a bit longer. Takes the pressure off and therefore the nerves too.

Thirdly, speak to youre doctor, they may be able to give you something to help.

And finally, I don't know if you have to travel for yours, I spent an entire day travelling to get to mine because they're so far away. First time, I was mentally and physically drained by the time I arrived that evening and my exam was the first thing the next morning. Not ideal. Second time I left a day early, so I had a rest day in between were I just went sightseeing with my friend who had came with me. This again helped massively, I was fresh and in good form come the exam the next day. Oh and bring a relaxed, laid back friend with you. First time I went with a girl who was also sitting the exam, and also very nervous, it rubs off! Lol

Good luck!!!
