So I'm a 1st year svn and really enjoying it, been in practice for a while and never thought the day would come that I'd finally get onto the nursing course. It was difficult to stay focused and not be absentminded while doing the tasks but I passed. Just keep in mind if you do have fertility issues you have to be actively trying for a number of years before having ivf on the NHS is what I understand. Be aware of possible complications and have a backup plan if you are unable to work. With your training it should be rather straight forward getting back into the swing of things. Do a volunteer day every other week to stay current and gauge your skills and if lacking take a Veterinary nursing assistant job to regain your confidence. Due to health issues of my daughter and lack of part time work in my area I am unable to go back to nursing at this time but those steps above are what I plan to follow when things settle down and I can find part time employment. Best of luck with whatever direction you commit to!

RE: Babies, maternity leave and svn training.

Advice from a 30 something male practice owning vet:

Plan your family and put it first. The college, your practice and your life will have to fit around what you decide to do. At the end of the day it's only a qualification and its only a job.

I know a couple of vets who've had babies during their undergraduate course and other qualifications and have done just fine.
