Basically I would like to know the pros and cons of studying at Harper Adams/Myerscough. For example:

I suppose for me it wasn't much different to when I was doing my initial training as I was one of the NVQ bunch who work full time and had a portfolio to complete as well as actual study.

I don't think any of my group from Myerscough found it too restrictive, intense yes but worth it....I don't think I could have faced it being dragged out over more years.

I was lucky funding wise that my practice will fund the dipAVN for us as our CPD budget.

RE: Advanced Nursing Diploma - Harper Adams or Myerscough?

Hi, I've recently completed my diploma at Harper Adams and I found it really interesting and worthwhile. I also found it very flexible in terms of hand in dates for assignments and exam dates etc. You can also complete the diploma over several years providing you study one module per year.

RE: Advanced Nursing Diploma - Harper Adams or Myerscough?

Thanks for such a detailed reply, has really helped. It's great to find out more from someone who has actually studied for this course.

How did you find working and studying at the same time? I'm worried the time restriction at Myerscough will make it stressful and I want to enjoy the course instead of resenting it, if you know what I mean.

Also, did you get funding for the course?

RE: Advanced Nursing Diploma - Harper Adams or Myerscough?

Hey,

- yes you are right in that thinking - Myerscough has set it up more like a degree situation whereas Harper you can do one module at a time

- nope both of them have study time but while it is advisable it isnt compulsary (unless you have exams etc!) I'm not sure how many study periods Harper runs but Myerscough is 3-4 weekends a year

- not exactly - they run similar core modules (which will have similar content) but then run different additional choice modules

- technically you don't need to spend any time in referral practice at all....that's up to you if you want to see different things (but could do that without doing the dip anyway)

- it's really hard to give exact comparisons as no onee will do the dip at one and then the other, my comments are based on my experience (at Myerscough) compared to colleagues who are completing it at Harper
