Oh mate that is so annoying!! They sound a bit flakey, so I guess you then have to wonder how would they respond if you needed to take sudden leave to go home in an emergency or fell ill long-term or any other slightly out of the box HR situation...

Having said that, if your membership comes through and you feel like you are settled in your current situation and they want to take you on then it might be worth a punt, you can only end up back where you are right now? X

me too.. sounds like they haven't been 100% clear. one of the things I look for in a practice is that they are 100% clear and have good communication!

if it was me I would be inclined to walk away - because to me there is no job offer andit sounds like you are a reserve if the one they have taken on doesn't work out. I hope you haven't shelled out too much on membership and that you can make use of it in another role

so I finally had a reply, 2 days later...

'We have hired some staff but that being said I would still like be apprised as to where you are in the process because going forward I still feel that you could be a good fit for us. Please stay in touch!'

i read this as the position I applied for has gone to someone else, but they'd possibly like to offer me a different position when my membership comes through. any thoughts? i feel like it could be time to move on.

the last contact i had was them asking me to get back to them once my registration was complete. that was some time ago.

i have decided i will email them tomorrow and ask where i stand, pending my registration of course. its not worth the sleepless nights.

no offence taken (not much anyway lol)

there are other factors at play.
if i don't get this job then i will have to leave the country and my boyfriend, so it's kind of important. quite a lot at stake here.
ive been in senior roles before and i can handle stress.
i think most normal people would be struggling after 2 months of waiting, with suitcases packed in case i have to leave immediately.

any support appreciated

Hey,

no updates i'm afraid. the office of the membership i'm applying for is only open 3 days a week for half a day at a time, so friday, saturday, sunday, monday are all not processing days. it's taking forever. i have all the symptoms of severe anxiety right now - i can't sleep but im exhausted, heart palpitations, headaches, can't concentrate etc!

i think i will contact the membership office tomorrow to try to get things pushed through. as for the potential workplace all i can really do is keep updating them with my progress (or lack of).

if i dont have my membership by the end of the week i guess i should just man up and ask the workplace straight out what their plan is. ive tried to be patient, but life's too short for me to waste months of time in the hope that they might offer me a position that they've seemingly given to someone else.

here's how not to recruit staff!

The 'acting' girl does have the necessary membership. i appreciate it seems odd that i 'need' this membership but it is important to the role, i can't say too much more without making it obvious what the role/who the potential employer is.

i'm not sure how to ask them directly if they are still considering me for the senior role, it seems pushy and i'm worried they won't take it well. feeble excuse but i really want to get the job.

though maybe i have nothing to lose!

i had sort of hoped they would offer me a provisional position, pending membership registration. i'm just seeing it as a good sign that they haven't officially turned me down yet...

does the 'acting' person have the necessary membership? Not the same but I had problems waiting for an enhanced CRB check coming through (not a vet nursing role) for one job I applied for and almost lost the opportunity

It all sounds a bit odd to me, I've never heard of anyone being required to become a member in an organisation before being given a job (apart from your usual RCVS registration) I know plenty of specific discipline nurses (myself included) and as far as I am aware none of us are required to be members of specific organisations to fulfil our job roles. Plus to be honest if membership to an organisation is required for a job role I would be expecting my employers to pay it.

If they require it then surely the fact you are going through the application process is good enough. I personally would contact the owners and speak to them, voice your concerns and point out that the membership process is taking longer than anticipated (and as cost you money) but you are keen to get started and would appreciate clarification that the job role is still available for you.
