I've been thinking about starting a career in animal care for a few years now, and having completed a degree in totally different sector (which has no relevance to veterinary/animal care whatsoever). I am really keen to get the ball rolling

RE: ANA Course with SJS?
i didn't say the ana course wasn't! And if you read my reply I actually said I did the ana course myself!

RE: ANA Course with SJS?
It's a proper qualification
It's a proper qualification and as it says leads on to the nursing diploma

i had the same issue - I desperately wanted to become an RVN but couldn't find a placement at a training practice and actually ended up having to move from Northern Ireland over to England to start my career. What you've done with regards to volunteering in a couple of practices is great and will look good on your cv. Would doing the degree or fdsc be an option for you as I think most universities find the placement for you?

I did an ana course whilst working as an auxiliary and it definitely was worthwhile and helped me get my place on an RVN college course and my college found me my training placement. The course is definitely not a waste of money but I believe there are a number of colleges that provide the ana course so if I was you I'd do some research about which one will be the best - a girl I work with has just completed her course and it involved online learning, assignments and exams which lead to a recognised qualification.

i think there was a discussion on here recently about ana courses - have a search in the forum and see. Just don't go for the cheapest one as tbh ive heard about a few ana courses where the whole class is assessed rather than each individual person and as such this does not test your own knowledge so for me that would be pointless!

Hope this helps and good luck, it's the best job in the world

RE: ANA Course with SJS?

Hi.

I did the course years ago when there were exams at the end, which there arent now. It's a great course and you will learn a great deal. You will also gain the ANA qualification which is becoming more recognised in the veterinary industry. You can also get work as a locum ANA with this qualification.

Ive never personally felt the need to go and do my RVN training but it is a good stepping stone if this is your goal.
