one of my dogs had a tplo on Friday and I think I didnt appreciate what it's actually like being the client rather than the nurse! It's so different when it's your own! the huge feeling of pressure when I signed the consent form.... Luckily I'm

RE: Being the client rather than the nurse!

[quote user="raceila"]

Hi julie-anne

sorry to hear about your cat. Hope your dogs ok now? Sitting at home on fri waiting for them to call to say he was recovering after his surgery was the longest wait ever! Same the next day waiting to see if he could go home.

It has definitely given me a greater understanding of what clients are going through!

Bob seems to be doing well so far,he's got this resting lark down to a t

He's fine. It was a Gastric dilatation brought on by a bad case of gastroenteritis. Metoclop CRI and he was fine by the morning.

RE: Being the client rather than the nurse!

i feel exactly the same when it comes to my own dog. She's an old border collie and had a large sarcoma appear on her and I did all the prep and monitoring of her. Scary at times but would rather that as if something did happen I was there to hold her paw.

RE: Being the client rather than the nurse!

I have always done my own animals GA's - mainly because I wouldn't want anybody else to feel bad if something went wrong.
sal you're brave doing your own cats GA! One of my other dogs had a dental a month ago and she didn't breathe throughout so I was a gibbering wreck!

My kitty was quite poorly at the end of 2015 and she had to be in the hospital for a week to be monitored and she very nearly needed a blood transfusion which I was petrified of doing in case it went wrong and I lost her. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make and it was horrible but I had comfort in knowing which nurses/vets she was with.
Although one thing I'm sure the staff appreciated was that I wasn't complaining about waiting like the other person in the waiting room - we can appreciate when it's busy and understand what it's like.

My cat was a blocked bladder that couldn't be unblocked due to previous catheterisation trauma to his urethra so when they mentioned PTS to me on the phone, I broke down - even though I'd had the idea in my head before the vet mentioned it.

My dog was projectile vomiting - 9 times in total by the time I got him seen. Vets Now were xraying him and said they'd phone me. Even knowing what it's like working OOH and it can get busy, I was still sitting by the phone and I think I phoned them twice because they hadn't phoned me in the time they said they would.

It's weird being on the other side but it lets you understand what owners are feeling.
