I have a grave concern regarding this post Sarah. Buster collars must not be used in rabbits as it prevents them eating their caecotrophs. These are essential to the health of the rabbit. Are you 100% sure it is his sutures he is trying to eat or the caecotrophs?

I suggest you need to get the collar of the bunny asap or you will be faced with a very ill rabbit.

I am proud to say (without jinxing myself) that I have a 95% success rate for tubing rabbits... it really annoys the vets lol.... sorry.... i strongly believe rabbits should be tube... lets face it if its difficult when they are alive... not so good when they are dead!!!!.

Tapping the chest... hmmm ok. i went on an excellent anaesthetic course and compressing the chest is not good as it causes silent regurgitation and the natural line to follow for the stomach contents is to follow the tube back into the lungs!!!... mirror is a good idea but also if to allow then to breath on the black rubber make, you get a great condensation pattern.... also good placement... you will see the bag move.....

Re: Spey & Castrating
Our vets been at the practice 34 years.. hes good with rabbit ops.. he puts the tube in n then holds a small mirror at the end to see the breath to check if its in ok.. :)
you can do the same with the fur, just pinch a bit out, tap on the chest.....holding the tube sideways of course or you will get breath from the front of the mouth....... anyway if the fur moves then your in.

All the vets i work with do it, in fact if they cant when the come they can after a few tries, as we dont do bunnies unless they are tubed.

Re: Spey & Castrating
I remember watching a male bunny being castrated, it was so weird. It looked totally different to what i thought it would. The vet spend ages trying to get a tube down it's throat (for the anaesthetic) before relenting and getting out the mask. Then the testicles, once out of the scrotum, looked kind of tubular instead of little balls like i'd imagined they would have been.

Re: Spey & Castrating
