i had to move from Northern Ireland to England to get a training practice! Don't give up hope! Great advice by everyone above to get into a vets by becoming a kennel assistany etc, I know that where I work if you work hard you can work your way up

dont give up! I qualified when I was 29 and had been trying to get a placement since I was 16!

RE: Struggling

Hiya

I was going to suggest the same really as the previous replies

I know nurses that started out as receptionist or kennel assistant and work there way up

Another option is degree

I struggled for 9 years to get a job in a practice and had Advanced Diploma in Animal Management and volunteered as much I could. In the end a applied to do the degree in vet nursing and did my placements in a few different practices but after my first year I never had an issue finding a student placement and now been qualified two years so that could be an option.

But keep trying, don't give up hope. I was 30 when I qualified and had been trying since I was 16

Try to gain as much experience as you can. I think it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time

Kirsty

You could try getting into a training practice initially as an animal care assistant or a kennel assistant. Though you won't be training to become a VN, you'll be getting more hands on experience and once a training position does come up you're in a great position to put yourself forward for it. I know a girl who started with reception work as a way in, and is now a qualified RVN.

A different approach is maybe considering the veterinary nursing degree?

There are other routes which involve working with animals but it depends on your interests and funding. Maybe some of the practices looking for a second year trainee would be more interested if you were willing to self fund some of the training fees?

You could apply for positions outside of your area if you are prepared to relocate.

Just throwing some ideas out there. Keep trying Sharney, if you really want it I'm sure something will come up.

Good luck! :)
