I never usually do this but I was wondering if anyone could provide some much needed advice. I'm currently in my second year of training for the Diploma course and having some problems at my practice.
I'm my clinical coach's first student

RE: CC & Training Practice

I think the best way forward is to discuss your concerns with the Head Nurse or Senior Vet. Better than having to look for another practice at this stage as it takes so long to get a Clinical Coach set up & you could waste valuable time.

RE: CC & Training Practice

Can you speak to the practice about it?? If you feel that she doesn't have the time to be a cc then maybe they could switch you onto someone else or support her more as a cc. Did she volunteer as a cc or did the practice 'make' her do it? Could it be that her heart just isn't in it?

RE: CC & Training Practice

Ask your CC if you can organise a day a week that you both make time to spend together. I get together with my student every Wednesday. If she says her job comes first being a CC is part of her job!! I would speak to your head nurse or practice manager to see if a compromise can be reached.I also agree that other RVN's and vets should be helping you. They can say that you have performed a task it doesnt have to be your CC observing everything. Good Luck.

RE: CC & Training Practice

I was on the diploma too and had the same problem. My original cc went on maternity leave so someone else in the practice became a cc, but I don't think she really wanted to. She had never done it before and was very un-organised. My npl was so far behind because she would regularly just forget about it and not open anything up. I had to take it upon myself to speak up, let everyone know what things I needed to sign off, the other RVNs and vets should be helping you out too, not just your cc.

I also spoke to college regarding my concerns and they said they would keep a check on the cc (not sure if they did or not). I probably bugged the hell out of my cc but if I hadn't done I would have never got my npl completed.

Have you explained your concerns to the head nurse or practice principal?
