For some reason my previous practice would not let me have my certificates when I left as they had paid for the courses! I phoned RCVS as I was concerned reg future audits etc and they said not to worry as they don't really look at certificates, just the CPD record.

Good luck! The best thing to do is as Arlo says - use your online RCVS PDR to log all the training you receive and make notes there including some reflective comments. If you stay over your 15hrs per year with 'normal' CPD then this will just add as a nice extra top up :)

Thank you for your replies!

I only wondered as I'll soon be leaving vet nursing for a diagnostic laboratory based job, but plan on staying on the register for the time being. The new job will definitely involve a lot of training, so just wondered if I could use it towards my CPD. Lots of note taking then!

I just record it in the online PDR thing, with notes about it and what I learned - most reps will give certificates if you ask but we record our in house clinical meetings and things like that, which we don't have certificates for.

Welcome Irwin.

Certainly the direction of travel that the RCVS is taking is one in which you take notes of what you learned and how you plan to put it into practice, so I would say keeping a note (no need for War and Peace') of what it was, main thing(s) you learned and perhaps a sentence about how you plan to use what you learned, would be more than enough to cover your derriere.

We dont always get certificates but if you happen to be audited by the RVCS your rep should be able to verify that they did come to the practise to do in house stuff.

We are always given certificates for any in house training so the vets/RVNs can use them for CPD
