I am new here and would like some advice. I'd like to become a Vet Nurse and I will be a mature student if I ever get in. I only have GCSE English and Maths, but not Science, so I am considering the ANA course through Animal Jobs Direct

RE: Level 2 ANA through SJA Training?
Hi

I am really enjoying my new career. It has been very hard at times, fitting life around all the studying and work. BUT it is 100% worth it, I have just passed my paper 3 exam, the final hurdle is in sight and I can't wait!!

Even if you cannot begin the course until September, is there anyway you can still be employed by the practice? You will be able to get a head start, see how everything works.

All the best!!!!
Thanks and again, congratulations. I did ask if I could start before September, even just volunteering in the practice, but they can't offer it to me as they have current placement students so there's no room to take any other people.

It's so nice to hear from someone who has gone through this and come out to say it's worth it =)

Thank you so much. I'll do my best.

RE: Level 2 ANA through SJA Training?

Hi

Hi

I studied for my ANA with SJS, 4 years ago. Good points - really good work material, Bad points - very hard to get hold of via telephone and email replies take days!!!

Are there any college near to you that do the ANA or VCA? This would probably be a good idea to look into. Especially if you are thinking of doing your vet nursing diploma afterwards, you could go to same college. They may be able to advise on the science qualification and if needed help you study.

I was a mature student did my ANA at 37, will qualify as a RVN at 41!!

Go for it!!!!
Thank you for your response. SJS still haven't replied to my e-mails and I still can't get hold of them on the phone, which is very disappointing and puts me off doing the ANA through them. My local college does do the VCA course but not until September each year and I wanted to start sooner.

Congratulations for getting so far in your studies/qualification. How did you find the journey of being a VN student?

RE: Level 2 ANA through SJA Training?

Hi

I have done it and one of my nurses are currently doing it.

You do need to be working/volunteering at a veterinary practice. A lot of your case logs need to be signed off by a vet and some by an RVN. You need exotic cases, hospitalisation cases, bandaging cases, anaesthetic cases and more, which you will only get in a vets.
Hello Welshynurse,

Thank you for your response. That's very helpful. I have been offered a placement starting from September 2017 but I was hoping to start the course sooner rather than later and then do the practical elements when I start at the practice.

I'm just not getting a reply from SJS and I tried to phone, but no answer =(

RE: Level 2 ANA through SJA Training?

I have done it and one of my nurses are currently doing it.
