I have been visiting a sister practice once a fortnight to get the time I need with a clinical coach for my NPL. This arrangement has been really helpful and I'm

RE: Time with clinical coach - RCVS guidelines?

Good luck and let us know how you get on, hun.
"They must therefore receive tutorials within the veterinary practice of at least three hours per week. Tutorials may include a variety of activities such as one-to-one practical teaching, directly supervised clinical work, revision groups, clinical coaching (supervising), individual tutorials or assessment activities."

I really hope it doesn't come down to breaking out RCVS guidelines but at least it's there if need be.

Count down until qualifying!

RE: Time with clinical coach - RCVS guidelines?

Hi,

There is a document on the RCVS website re Training Practice application guidance.

http://awardingbody.rcvs.org.uk/document-library/tp-application-form-guidance-notes/tp-application-guidance-criteria-june-14.pdf

Page 10 talks about allowing SVN's to "gain sufficient, appropriately supervised, experience in all aspects of nursing work". Might this aspect work towards bulking up your request for more Clinical Coaching time, as clearly the 'appropriately supervised' part is sensibly only applicable to the work you do whilst training and relevant to your NPL? If the counter-argument is raised that you are gaining experience at your current practice and are being appropriately supervised, this is easily countermanded by the fact that it is NOT relevant to your NPL as the practice cannot provide a CC.

Of course, you might consider doing 'Witness Statements' at your current practice to help you cover aspects of your training you need. This is acceptable so long as your existing CC is happy to sign off on them as well. Is this allowable / do-able for you?

hth

(Unfortunately they have a history of not looking after / not prioritising their nurses.) My only option is to request a sit down with the the boss and hope that we can have a fair conversation. In case he's feeling stubborn, I'm trying to figure out where I stand, if I have any rights as a learner...?

Thanks for the suggestion though, I will try the lecturers as a last resort.

RE: Time with clinical coach - RCVS guidelines?

have you spoken to your clinical coach/college - maybe they can advise you better
