You don't have to be stupid to be a racist sexist. bigot. Anybody that holds his view on women and minorities in particular has no place as president of the united states. Youre right, the media has gone after him, but you know what? he provides them with plenty of ammo!

Someone said to me the day after he was voted in that 'it's not always the person who appears in power that is in power'. I.e apparently Regan (if your old enough to remember him, me only just :-) ) was a terrible president, but his team were very good, hence his time in power wasn't all that bad. so aa long as Trump allows himself to be guided on occasion (!) they may be okay??!!

He's living proof that some people will say or do anything to win. He's just more obvious than most.

I don't like him, nor do I approve of his policies, and in fact I didn't vote for him either, but to anyone who think's he's a fool, cretin, idiot, or otherwise not that bright - well, we underestimate him at our own risk. After all, a fool wouldn't have gotten as far as he did.

This was an election between the status quo and 'something completely different', to use the old Monty Python line. The status quo didn't win, because perceived wisdom was perceived as fact. There is a significant, real divide between urban and rural America, just like there is between urban and rural UK; in that respect the Brexit referendum and the US Election had some quite strong similarities.

I have no doubt that he's a loving father to his children and a great support to his close friends. But that doesn't automatically translate to being good presidential material.

I do not wish him ill, nor do I wish him dead - the level of hate and hysteria on the social network appalls me right now. I just don't think he's the right man for the job.

I will be quite pleased to be proved wrong, of course.

Based on what I read in the media, I'd agree.

The only thing that has surprised me, and gives me cause to doubt, are the number of respectable people who say they have met him and that in person he is not a 'bad' man. Quite the reverse. I know, that sounds unbelievable, but when an accomplished journalist like Matt Frei says it, you've got to wonder (and hope!).

I suppose there is always a chance he could surprise everybody and make a good job of it - unlikely as it may seem. The proposed scale back on NATO is a worry I must admit

I hadn't heard that one! Suspect that might prove to be wishful thinking.

But I do think (perhaps clutching at straws) that something positive might come from having someone with a completely fresh, business set of eyes running the show.

Shame it turned out to be Trump, though. Why on earth did they pick the most odious businessman of the lot?

All I can report is what I've heard discussed on the news...

The thinking has been that from the grass roots on upwards, everyone is fed up of the 'out of touch Dynasties' (Bush and Clinton brigades) and want something different - someone more in touch / has experience of the real (business) world to "make America great again". They adjudge that Trump is a successful business man so why wouldn't he do the same for the good ol' US of A?

I am guessing they have put aside all fears of his strangeness in every other direction in the trust that he will 'make good'... I also heard that BECAUSE he has been seen to embrace his ugly side so completely and that as it is 'already out there' there will be no nasty surprises in store. Americans KNOW what they are getting...

Hey ho. IMHO, you couldn't write a soap opera script this weird and get away with it!
