Hi all!

Just wondered what people's pros and cons were for Locum nursing? any Scottish nurses in particular?

Many thanks!

[/quote]

Im not Scottish! But I have been a locum and for me, I much preferred it than working in a single practice for years. Less of the politics and more chance to get on and undertake good quality nursing. I enjoyed seeing the different protocols that different practices had and learning new tips as I went along. As well as being able to provide a different view point to them and helping some update certain things (like their rabbit protocols for example). You also need to decide if you will use an umberella company or start your own company and self promote.

The cons: Not much job security, can be quite daunting turning up to a new place, risk of really not enjoying your time there, travel hours and not always feeling part of a team.

The pros: Better wage, choose your locations / hours, more part time options available, less drama, always meeting new people and learning new things.

When starting out - you can always do the odd locum shift as well as your current job to see how you get on with it. Good luck!
