I need to prepare this for tomorrow for a patient in the morning. I remember defrosting in lukewarm water for half an hour before use. Is this correct? I was told to defrost overnight but it's to be used within 4

RE: Fresh frozem plasma, when to defrost

Plasma should be complexly defrosted and bought to room temp I use a warm water bath using a plastic wallet to make sure there's no contamination of the ports. I also stress that's when it's frozen/ thawing it's very brittle and should be handled very carefully. I have only ever defrosted it a shortish period before use ie not over night not sure if you can leave it over night ? It will defo defrost within an hour or so like I said just be careful and I invert it gently but regularly :) I hope the patient is okay and it goes well x

RE: Fresh frozem plasma, when to defrost

sorry for the delay in replying. you are correct in thinking that it takes about 20-30 mins to defrost in luke warm water. defrosting it and leaving it for any length of time can affect the factors (not all but some)

Really an FFP transfusion should be done prior to any surgery to allow the factors to start circulating adequately not really something that should be done during.
