We have been lucky in that it is something we have not needed to do for many years and therefore we are very rusty!

Hmm - well my first thought (and granted that this is with precisely zilch experience in interviewing), is that much of the feedback I get is about how hard it is to hire the right VS. A bit of a seller's market at the moment.

If that's the case for you (obviously a practice in the Hebrides is probably going to find it harder to recruit than one in, say, Birmingham), then I would say it's important to frame your questions in such a way that they 'sell' the job to the applicant as much as the other way around.

I did some research amongst veterinary surgeon jobseekers (very similar to the one I did amongst VN jobseekers), which is here: https://www.vetsurgeon.org/agContent/news/jobseeker-survey-v3.pdf

For example, perhaps a question or two which provides YOU with the opportunity to convey stuff about (for example) teamwork at your practice as much as it is to assess their level of 'team spirit'.

Just a thought, and as I say, I'm not what you'd call spectacularly well-qualified to advise!
