I still think that a nurse or vet is best to do them unless a receptionist has previous veterinary experience etc. I worry just with the lack of experience and the way the insurance companies are now that there will be issues if it's swapped from a nurse to reception.

RE: Who does insurance forms?

I do, but our vets and ACA can muddle through them quite competently if I'm away. At practices I've worked at in the past they have been handled by receptionists, and I don't have a problem with this as long as they know what treats what condition ect. It does become a little more tricky without that training and knowledge but heck, if they know what they're doing then why not. I'm certainly more than happy to spread the workload sometimes!!

RE: Who does insurance forms?

who does our insurance forms? - me and I hate it with a passion, especially RSA ( who are currently right at the very top of my hit list, specifically TESCO) where you get multiple requests for clinical history that has been sent multiple times faxed , posted, emailed - every possibility covered and they still insist they don't have it I think the insurance companies should be paying practices for the amount of time we spend running around after them.

RE: Who does insurance forms?

ours are all done by head office, if there are any queries the dept relating to the case will take over the claim. I would think it should be reasonable for reception staff to do simple ones - eg one-off wounds, abscesses, lumps etc but I think if complex cases with multiple conditions need claiming then I think it's probably best if vets/nurses do them as they can be quite complicated.

RE: Who does insurance forms?

If reception have good veterinary experience, I think it's fine.

I think it could be difficult for reception staff as I struggle sometimes with knowing what relates to what with some complicated multi condition ones we have. I also think they are best done by one person as they will have their own system of how they do things. Our receptionist does help me out with calling clients regarding queries or outstanding excess payments etc which is very helpful.
