I don't think there's really an easy answer to this one, other than giving it time, but just needed to talk. As you may know, I lost yet another of my cats this week which now brings the grand total to 4 pts's in the last 22mths.
I hope you get nice weather for the villiage carnival. The sun is shining here today again, it is lovely. Hope it stays that way!

Re: House doesn't feel like home now

Well the good new is I have all those lovely canvases that I got for my birthday to go up on the wall shortly! Tha bad news is that we have ANOTHER poorly kitty as of last night. I'm hoping this is nothing serious but she's 14 so at thre rate things are going, who knows. She's going into work with me today. She was my other half's cat originally so god forbid anything awful should happen, it's going to hit him really hard. Fingers crossed eh?!

Have a fantastic time in Cavan. My other half's mum went there last summer and loved it. Just hope the weather's kind to you - forecast not looking too promising for the weekend and we have our village carnival on Sunday!

Re: House doesn't feel like home now

Following on from Mrs Dot Dot's post, I know what you mean about keeping the photographs up......a few years back, my pets were Sammy (who recently died), Gismo (Dalmatian) who was pts due to dilated cardiomyopathy 2 years ago and Rosie, my German SH Pointer who is the only one of the three still to be alive.

My friend who runs an animal sanctuary organised a day when a professional photographer would be at the home taking photographs of pets. Rosie, Sammy and Gismo all posed for photographs. The photographer had them framed with their names at the bottom. The finished piece was absolutely gorgeous. I paid to get 3 different photos framed. I placed them on the wall in my dining room, and een though Rosie is the only one of them left.........the photos remain. I do find it hard looking at them sometimes and thinking of the past.......but, for the present, they will remain as I cannot bring myself to take them down. I dont think I ever will.

Hi Paula

Am not thinking of another cat as I couldn't do that to the two we have left again. This is why it's hard as I don't see me being able to have any others! I know a lot of people rush into trying to replace a lost pet but for me, this is how I cope, or have done in the past, but it's not really an option right now. Thanks for taking the time to reply and hope you are doing ok?

Hi Dippy,

Dont say you wont have any others, I am sure, given a bit of time, one will come along that will be just for you!! It may be a stray, one you rescue, one you look for, but he/she will come along when the time is right. It has happened to me before!!

Aw, I am not too bad at the moment thanks, I still have my moments though. I had Daisy, my lurcher in work today for a bandage change as I had nothing at home to change it, and when I was chatting about her, I kept referring to her as Sammy........very strange.

I am off tomorrow to our annual BSAVA/BVNA Congress NI in the Slieve Russell hotel County Cavan. The family are all coming along. This is my first year hosting it as BVNA RCO so the nerves are starting to show!! Though I am sure I will be fine once I get started!

Mum & Dad have the honour of looking after the dogs, cats, rabbit & goats while I am away lol!! I will be like the paranoid mother..phoning all the time to see how they are lol!!

Rosie, my old German SH Pointer is on a lot of medication for her arthritis so I will be demonstrating how to adminster it to mum before I go!!

Do keep in touch Dippy, I hope you are ok. I was thinking about you lots at work today and I hope you are coping. I guess we are sort of in the same boat at the minute. Its very hard, I know, but it has to get easier in time.

Sending lots of love & hugs and you take care and look after yourself xxx

Re: House doesn't feel like home now

Hi Dippy!

t's always so sad and so hard losing one and I don't think you feel the full effects imediately because they all have their own little ways and their own mannerisms that you are not fully aware of until they are gone. Your house always feels so empty... I found with my cats that another cat almost became more confident and took the others place(in a different way) and her personality came out more, which was some substitute to filling the space of the 2 I lost over 2 months, a few years ago. You say that your 2 remaining cats are your OH's but give them abit of time and it may be the same for you.

It can take a long time but time will heal a little... I just put as many photos as possible all over the house, and many are still up... I still can't bear to take many of them down...nearly 4 years on! and I have a new generation of cats. But everyone has their own ways of doing things. I found the photos a great comfort... it kinda felt they were still around, a little.

I always say that cats are the best at finding an owner when they are needed, so wait and see... you never know.............. x

I dont think we could ever get used to our pets leaving us - each one would still leave us devastated. You have been unfortunate to lose your pets within a small space of each other. That is very difficult for you.

It is never easy introducing a new cat into a cat household. I feel you should give yourself time to come to terms with your loss before you even think about another cat.

I know it is hard right now, but the pain will ease - given time. Please do look after yourself and take the time you need to grieve.
