Worth mentioning it to your existing employer if you do decide to do it, just in case there are any objections / clauses in your contract prohibiting it entirely or without pre-approval.

One common objection I've come across is the "you will be too tired with two jobs" argument. Another is prohibiting you from selling on the work premises. So, prepare your case carefully with counter positives for all potential refusal arguments, before presenting your request.

Sal is right about the income tax part - as tempting as second jobs sound, you are hammered at 20% on all income, (always supposing you are using all your allowances up on your main job, that is). So, factor in this loss when working out what your minimum income needs are compared to effort/time spent.

I used to be part of a small group called 'Girls Night In' - we ran evenings on average once a week, didnt affect my day job but income from a second job isn't fantastic when you take Income Tax into consideration - enjoyed doing it all the same and two or three of us may be getting together again for another go at it
