I'm the assessor though hehe! I'm not getting anytime during work to sit down with the students and make plans etc... very busy hospital and now getting very frustrated as the poor students aren't getting the training they were promised when they started their placement... mind you, I was promised a day a week to work on assessor stuff and now find it hard to grab 10 mins at the end of the day!

the 3 hours a week is not separate time away from work- it is work based learning.

keep a diary of what you have learned, asked or been taught over a week,

i'm sure it will far exceed 3 hours.

you really only have to have 1hr with assessor and the other 2 hrs can be on the job training from vets and qualifed nurses. x x x

Thanks all!

I'm just getting myself in a right tizz over all this as just started the course and getting no time at work to do it....

BTW, how much time do you guys get to assess in practice and cover portfolio stuff with the students?

I know we are supposed to get 3hours a week but i'm not allowed any time =( Is this similar in other practices?

Just gotta keep muddling through!

for cu2.2 pc 1we use the health forms our students fill in and update throughout there time with us, the clocking in and out sheets for fire h&s for pc 5, i also do alot of it with assessor statments

pc 2 ppe in most case logs that they write.

pc 8 recayling cansof food, paper, if u have fix dev the way u despose of that

Whilst on the subject of CU units, what has everyone done for CU2, the health and safety one? Is it mainly them demonstrating that they know how to do a risk assessment and generally observing h&s whilst carrying out other roles or is there something more I can get them to actually do in front of me? Our practice has very comprehensive h&s policies but are all done by the practice manager.

i have used simulations before also , cleints moaning in reception re waiting times etc.

if the student has every disagreed with any of your marking of case logs i would note in tutorial records and use that for cu5.2. this has happened a few times as they are new to the standards and somtimes dont fully understand it. htis also covers areas in cu5.1 as u then set target for review to show they understand it better.

let us know what u do. i hate the cu units, lets hope lantra changes or bins them. x x

Hi,

Apologies if I have this wrong as I dont have my standards to hand. I think I used a practice meeting and one of my students managed to have an informal debate (disagreement!!) with another member of staff over a certain topic!

It can also be used with working with people external to the team eg practice manager, partners, receptionists.
