Can i just say that I am an atheist as i have been studying philosophy of religion for the last 3 and a half years at various levels. I was a fence sitter at the beginning.

If you are interested in the topic read "Why I am Not a Christian" by Bertrand Russell, a philosopher who began his career by studying philosophy of maths, and ended it by doing moral philosophy after a stint in prison after being a conscientious objector in WW1. He is also my personal hero.

It is but normal to feel that God doesn't exist when something bad happens. But think about this... Does it mean that nobody created the knife just because it was used to kill someone? If your answer "no", then you must agree that the existence of wicked does not prove that God doesn't exist as well.

Believers will also agree that the Adam and Eve have chosen a course of life separate from God when they disobeyed him. They have chosen to become a rebel like Satan. After which, God proceeded to let the rebels continue so as to let them prove to themselves that they have made a real bad choice, while also proving them that he is the only rightful ruler.

That means that the present system of things is under the control of the head of the rebels. And although there are lots of people who try to live according to the standards of God, they can't always avoid the wicked. They too are not free from the consequences of the sin the first man and woman have made, that is death.

When, again the world is ruled by God, everything will fall in their right places.

Faithful man Job didn't think there exists no God when he lost all his belongings, most of his servants, all of his children, and suffered from painful sickness. Jew, Muslims, and Christians who believe in the experience of Job will surely attest to the statement that God is real.

Q..All the wars justified in the name of god/religion. A fact that the vatican has started to agree on well it was one of their cardinal historians. One statuistic l heard was that all wars have a theme of religion in them that sets them off.

I got off the bus when l was reading the Da Vinchi code. This idiot in uniform from the buis company who was going to work on the bus to the main bus depot gets off when l do and taps me on the shoulder then starts to preach to me about the devils book, reading the true word of god and pushed a bible under my nose...

l told him to bug off, l was reading the book for enjoyment and couldn't stand his religion that l was a spirtualist (not strickly truwe but easier than explaining my feelings) and that l was clairvoyant.(did not add l am not great just a hit and miss type) hwe started to back away from me crossing himself and muttering about gods vengence etc .

Have decided it was a wonderful reaction am awaiting the next god nut to accost me will have a lot more fun since l saw what the nutters react like.

chicken, egg and also a perfect example of how translation over languages can be misconstrued very easily. think of how many languages the bible stories were in and have been translated from... some of these languages are actually 'dead' languages!

What was a burning bush in English could have just been a very powerful speaker metaphorically in another time. :)

also the english translation would be 'treat others with the respect that you would like them to treat you with'

i.e. don't do anything to anyone that you wouldn't want done to you, or be the same way you would like others to be to you.

a basic rule in life for me is: don't do to others what you don't wan't them to do to you

erm I believe you mean "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and that's known as the 'golden rule' not the basic rule in life... It's one of the 10 commandments.

i can actually understand the urge for believers to convert people because believers believe that everyone who believes will meet again in the other world so they want to be with their loved ones for eternity rather then knowing that they won't ever see them again or knowing they would burn in hell if that is the only other option.

and from this point of view i can understand this but as i don't believe in such an after life for eternity i find it annoying when people try to get me onto other thoughts

I was brought up a christian.......... cant remember being made to force anyone to convert though........ mind you I have not set foot in a church since my gorls were chritened over 15 yrs ago

But most religions actually make it part of the deal to convert others - certainly if you are muslim, or with most of the Christian 'groups'. So it could be said that NOT converting others to the faith is going against God's teachings!

Well, I would say opinions definitely differ on this one.

The day my brother tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident, we were only allowed 50 yards from the scene, it was cordoned off by the police and the ambulance crew and fire brigade. I could not see the car, but I could see the injured being loaded into the ambulance. For some reason, the blankett never covered their feet. I was using this vision to determine whether my brother was going into the ambulance or the hearse. So so so tragically for me and my family, my brother did not go in the ambulance.

For all the time I was there, watching, waiting, hoping against all odds that Stephen was one of the survivors, I prayed the whole time to God.

It done me no good whatsoever in the end, but it didnt stop me from praying.

I personally dont think there is a god, althou went to church of england schools as a kid. Some members of my family are now born again Christians who push their beliefs on other 'non-believers' I even got blackmailed at one point 'join our church and we'll go veggie' 'my reply was 'i'm veggie for a reason, not just on a whim' I think that religion and its discussion will always cause conflict no matter how you look at it. Look at 9/11!

I know quite a bit about all the relifions out there for one reason or another, and feel that in this day and age when we live in a multi cultural society we should all try and get on and not let religion or race get in the way.
