This is a plea to all you lovely nurses out there to try to ensure that every animal is routinely scanned for a microchip when a client has an appointment. I work for a rehoming charity and in the last 12 days have had 3 cats brought in

RE: microchips not being scanned

I know, we have had those too.

It's just very worrying when you speak to someone at the practice and they openly say that they know the vets are not scanning routinely despite being reminded to do so. I would have not been pleased if my cat had been taken in by someone as a stray + not scanned when taken for a check up + I had been worrying myself sick for years about what had happened to her.

RE: microchips not being scanned

hi it gets worse when practices forget to register the microchips.

but just because the clinical notes do not indicate that the cat has been scanned at every appointment does not mean they haven't, also microchips do fail especially with certain brand, along with migrating within the animal. I have situations where we could not find a microchip on a RTC animal. however under xray there was clearly a microchip
