We have found ourselves the proud owner of a beautiful Modena fancy pigeon (he was found in a town centre bin) - massively aggressive when he arrived but much better now (although still a bit like a bear with a sore head, as is their

RE: Any fancy pigeon fans??

Thank you! He's called Sid - to give him his full name, Sid Vicious Groucho Marx! there was nothing seriously wrong with him when he came in, only a bit of bruising, a lot of lice and a hell of an attitude!

He's just in temp accommodation at the moment until we get our outdoor aviary built I've emailed the National Modena club to get some more advice too as we are the same - lots of ferals, injured, hand rears etc but never fancys! Will definitely keep in mind re: the perches, at the moment he has lots of bamboo sticks, taped together of different thicknesses but I'll get some natural perches for him until he's in his big house

RE: Any fancy pigeon fans??

Ooh, he's beautiful! Not particularly into fancy pigeons, but always had a soft spot for pigeons in general! I've hand reared or nursed many a pigeon - some posh, some racers, some that could be described as flying vermin!!

Only thing to mention if he's pictured in his permanent home, is that he needs natural wood perches that have varying diameters. I used to work in a wildlife hospital and also an exotics referral centre, and the chances of getting bumble foot increased when the birds had smooth, consistent diameter perches (or when given no perch at all). Apologies if you know this and he's in a temporary home in his picture.

Hope you have a long and enjoyable life with him
