check your syringes, as some are designed to have ZERO dead space wastage, for instance millpledge 1ml

in my practice we add 0.05ml per injection as wastage.

at the end of the bottle it never adds up right.

normally we had more in the bottle than the book suggests.

all calculations are correct.

depending on how much controlled drug we are using depends on the 28 day rule.

We make a note when we open a new bottle to help keep track of totals. No duplicate entries?

We record 0.05ml as waste for every injection (that's just the amount dechra told us) so it shouldn't be that - taking that number away entirely leaves us with less than we should have so not a solution either.

We've no bottles waiting to be disposed of, but it's a good thought and probably something we'll fall foul of in the future! We use 10ml bottles, but we only ever use it for tripling cats and rabbits so we do end up wasting a lot with the 28-day-broach period. If we get this figured out it might be worth switching to ampoules tbh!

just a suggestion - do you have any bottles of ketamine past their 28day broach in the safe waiting a witness before they can be disposed of?

ie have you started a fresh bottle and up until that time the register was correct but then somebody has accidentally taken doses out of a bottle for disposal which would then result in you having more ketamine left in the in use bottle than you should have - hope that makes sense? (so if you do have any part bottles waiting disposal does the amount left in those tally with what should be in there or is that amount less than it should be?)

What size bottles are you using? we have found using smaller bottles we waste less as a result of the 28 day broach and find it easier to keep an accurate tally but that obviously depends on how much you are using and how often.

I usually add 0.06ml per injection as waste ( the bit left in the hug of the needle) this is recorded as such -If you're not doing this over time it could add up?
