Well, that will make things seem 10 times worse!!

I do our on call rota which includes nights/weekends/bank hols - I always ensure everything is distributed as evenly as possible, including myself doing at least the same as the others, if not more. There is still the occasional gripe, but I usually can sort things easily as most people don't mind swapping. I really hope you sort things, cos it will start to get you down if you let it - but maybe wait until you are less hormonal before making any big decisions!

Re: Problem with work rota

a collegue and i have had a similar problem. to cut a long story short we had been given extra late shifts because all the other staff have children to find chilcare for. i understand that it must be difficult to get childcare for late shifts but we felt like we were being discriminated against because we have no children. althought we dont have kids we do still have a life and commitments. luckily after making our feelings known we have managed to shift the rota around so that it is fairer. i hope things get sorted for you, its a horrible situation to be in and i do sympathise with you

Re: Problem with work rota

thanks guys. Its just one nurse that works out the rota so its entirely down to her that things aren't evenly distributed, the other girls just do whatever they are put down to do although they have also had problems in the past. She just seems to make it up as she goes along, there seems to be no record kept of who has worked what etc. I realise it sounds over dramatic to walk out, however I would not be the first (really) and this has been going on for nearly a year. Its just a hassle we could do without, I was actually in tears today when I saw just weekends and 12 hour shifts and late shifts ahead for weeks. I'm sick of fighting my corner and just think that we should all be given more respect. Its not that I mind going to the furthest branch that much but I feel a bit victimised beacause I have spoken up in the past and seem to be getting the crap end of things because of that. Its well known that she is a bit vindictive and has always had her 'favourites' in practice. I may also be bit hormonal at the moment

Re: Problem with work rota

I sorta know where you are coming from. At the moment i'm on reception most days and working the 11-7 shift or the 9-5:30 both which are reception, i'm on my first early/duty (8am-7/8am-4:30) for almost a month tomorrow. I've only been there for 2 months though and I'm a training ANA. I feel a bit left out sometimes but i guess it wil be good for me to get the hang of the computers and reception and get to know some of the clients personally. But I can definitly see how you are a bit down about always working those hours. :( Hope you work it out soon! xx

Re: Problem with work rota
Am I overreacting ?
Only over-reacting if you walk out without trying to sort things first. If you generally like the job, then you must speak to someone about things. Try thinking of reasons why you would be of more use/able to put your skills to good use for the benefit of the practice, at your preferred surgery. Explain that whilst you are more than happy to do your share of lates & weekends, you feel they are not being distributed evenly & perhaps there has been an oversight with the rota & you would be grateful if it could be looked in to. Try not to say that "so & so" never does any evenings/weekends, as that might look as though you are telling tales. Whatever you do decide to do - plan it - don't get upset & walk out! Good luck!
