Anyone been on any they recommend ? My dream would be a game reserve, big 5. I have looked at rehabilitation projects in Peru. I have heard about a lot of people going to these

RE: Anyone know any good volunteer abroad projects?

Sorry, do realise I'm a little late to this discussion but I have done HEAPS of volunteering abroad!

If you want Big 5 I'd recommend looking at ACE (African Conservation Experience) they have regular volunteer and veterinary only volunteer placements. I did the Limpopo one which was a bit hit and miss, some days we had nothing to do, others we were out from 4am darting and microchipping buffalo!
I've done a lot in Thailand (3 stints with elephants, 1 dog experience) Borneo, Australia and Bali. Send me a message and I can give you specifics.

Some projects are run on the bare minimum, so facilities are poor but if anything it actually makes you appreciate even more what can be done with so little! I've been lucky, there was only one project I wouldn't go back to and that's because I felt they were wasting donations.

RE: Anyone know any good volunteer abroad projects?

I really enjoyed my time with animals asia in china.they have amazing facilities there and the work they do for the bears is outstanding. they only ask you pay for flights and visa, but provide accomodation and food (although it's pretty spicy.) they normally ask for three months in one go though..

hope you find somewhere exciting :)

RE: Anyone know any good volunteer abroad projects?

WVS are a great place to start. I know you can neuter cats and dogs in Malawi and then get the chance to go on safari if that's the kind of thing you're looking for..also Born Free have volunteer opportunities at their African projects sometimes.
