So, latest update ...

Did some research on adverts posted on VetSurgeon and found that 80% of practices had not added anything to their own website to show they're hiring (or not).

Whilst most visitors to a practice website will be pet owners, likely that some jobseekers will visit the practice website directly.

So we've created a new badge you can add to your practice website which links to JUST the jobs you have advertised on VetNurse at any given moment.

Example is this one I created for White Cross Vets:

To add the badge to your practice website, you need to be logged in under the account used to place adverts, then click here: https://www.vetnurse.co.uk/p/find-our-veterinary-nurse-jobs.aspx

Then grab the code, and add it to your website (or email the code to your IT guy to do it).

There's also a badge for veterinary surgeon jobs, which can be downloaded from VetSurgeon.org.

Whaddyathink?

Busy day here at VetNurse Towers ... inspired by your comment sananbaz, I have installed sharing buttons that appear on the left hand side of the main VetNurse Jobs section, so if you come across someone looking for a job, you can send them a link to the whole list in one click.

Also, added bigger sharing buttons on each individual job advert, to encourage everyone to share (if the job isn't for them, of course!).

Also added 'jumbo-sized' sharing in each individual news story (and opened up the news section so that news stories are now visible to non-members, so if you share a link to a news story, they'll be able to read it even if not a member). In fact, you've got me going share-crazy!

In other news, I'm chuffed to bits to see the latest flush of nursing jobs advertised today, and it seems to me that one immediate benefit of charging money for advertising is that the quality of the adverts seems better to me; people seem to be giving more thought to what they post.

Great! Very nice to hear that. Actually, so nice to hear it, I wonder if you would allow me to quote you on the page of information for advertisers?!

(We have started charging for advertising vacancies now, and it's nice for advertisers to know - beyond just the traffic statistics - that members use it!).

Not to be too cynical, but in my opinion, if an employer fills in nonsense, it shows a lack of transparency and respect for the position and maybe that should raise a mental flag about that organisation?

To be honest, if small businesses want to compete against the big boys and attract good staff, they are going to have to up their games.

I am sure you will find a clever way to get the information Arlo without alienating the small businesses.

Yes, we did think hard about that, the problem being that so few small businesses seem to advertise what they are offering. I think with small businesses, it tends to be more a process of negotiation, whereas the larger ones are more formulaic.

So my worry would be that employers would just fill in £££ or something nonsensical.

But actually. Hmmmm. You've just given me an idea!

VetNurse Jobs will be a continually evolving, developing thing. First stage is to introduce charging. Then I can use the revenue it generates to develop more and more features. I've got a couple of really cracking ideas already (well I think so, anyway). I'll add yours to the list!

As feedback, for someone just coming into the industry like myself, I think it would be really helpfull for the job ad's to have a salary or range posted as a compulsory field I know it is not about the money, but some practices still pay quite poorly and they need to realise nurses are worth a decent wage. If a wage is posted, job seekers can cherry pick their options better and waste less time going through the whole application process only to get this vital information sometime down the line.

I sunspect this would be well received by job seekers and hopefully raise the bar on wages a little too?
