This way I can gather a database for suitable dogs who we can call on in an emergency. Has anyone done anything like this in practice before and how

RE: Has anyone set up a blood donor session at there clinic?

Hi!

I organise and maintain our blood donors register at my surgery.

I have a folder of information, client information, sign up sheets, information for staff etc we tend to try and ask clients on routine vaccinations for dog's who we know are suitable if they would be interested in adding their names to the register. If they say yes, we get them to fill in the form - age, health status, previous travelling etc and give the owner a 'what to expect if we call you' type sheet. We run promotions on facebook and things too.

Our database is quite new really and previously we've called the donor and got them to pop down and the dog's haven't been typed, we just have a pop up thing on our system that says 'received blood date or donated blood date'.

We are in the process of getting some typing kits and will type dog's either at the time of donation, before they get the transfusion and hopefully any potential donors when they come for their vaccines as we build up the database. We currently offer donors a free vaccine and free typing and the charges are made to the recipient - blood bag, typing kit, giving set etc

I hope this has helped x
