I've taken on the Controlled drugs from a Veterinary Nurse who has left and I am currently trying to do an overhaull on the whole procedure of stock checks.
So I have my hardback book with 2 pages allocated

RE: Controlled drugs registrer help!

Hi Sian,

We stock take every morning just before rounds in terms of the MD vials which are a nightmare by the way we draw all ours up into 1ml syringes for allocation to each patient (great from a booking and stack control point of view) and then take from that syringe for each dose until it runs out but we use a number of bottles a day so this might not be appropriate for you...

RE: Controlled drugs registrer help!

Hi Stuart,

Thanks! Do you do a check every week as well or do you tend to do your stock check daily? Also how do you go about measure you're bottles so you know everything that should be logged is logged?

Dear Sian,

Oh no the dreaded CD books! We have a lot of them one for each drug and being a referral centre we have pretty much the whole selection and different concentrations of each to boot. We do something with sounds similar with a table with a decreasing volume list. We do stock check every morning after rounds as we use so much we like to keep a close eye on it, i guess you also need to think about how often the books are out... if you are finding mistakes at end of week check its often easier to 'find' them if you have less to go through..

Hope this helps

Stuart
