There is an exemption form a client can obtain if microchipping will have effect on their health , but has to be backed up by vet

II had to look into this recently because we had an appointment for a chip and the dog was super aggressive - unable to muzzle, too hyped up at the time to give sedation and not confident we'd even get close enough to jab the thing!

Anyway I spoke to our local dog warden who said there are no exceptions at all. He simply advised to give the guy some Acp tablets to take home and jab the dog while it was sedated.

He did mention if owners are found with a dog with no chip they'll get a notice to chip it within 21 days and then will be given a fine of up to £500. On the other side of the coin we've heard a few times over the phone that people are now too afraid to collect their dogs from the local dog warden kennels in case they get there to collect their unchipped dog and are greeted by a fine! This is not the case and they will have the dog chipped for free - by our local kennels anyway. No fine.

I'll be pleased when all this has settled down a bit!

but apparently microchips also cause arthritis (labrador owner) because every dog they have ever had has had arthritis after being chipped (chipped as puppies and treated for arthritis @ 10 or 10+ yrs of age) common denominator is microchips - not the fact that the majority of overweight labradors getting on in years have a few problems with joints.

If I had a pound for every microchip query phone call I have taken this week I could have booked a really nice holiday - one thing is for certain I am going to need one after this has calmed down a bit.
