Many owners believe that a vets obligation to care for animals, means that they should override other morals to achieve this. We arrived to a domestic, turned out the husband had gone out to play golf and his (very clearly once we arrived) alcholic wife had decided to have his cat put down to spite him and he had forgotten something so had popped home when she then told him!

It took us about 15 minutes of banging on the door etc to get their attention once we arrived, the husband eventually let us in and told us what had happened and apologised profusely. He wanted us to see the cat anyway in order for the wife to hear from a vet the cat was ok (it was it was in amazing condition for its age, eating and drinking fine and spending most of the time sunning itself in the garden!). We spent about half an hour speaking to the wife, my boss was very patient and eventually she relented and we left. The husband followed us out to the car and again apologised, asking if we could put a note on the records not to visit unless he called. My boss happily agreed.
The vet performed the euthanasia, the dog was clearly suffering and on could have been justified on humane grounds. We did know when we went out that the husband was unaware as we had to fit in when he was at work. The wife knew the dog was suffering but didn't know how long it would take her to talk her husband round.

She then asked me: can you take it of her card that she is spayed? my OH didn't wanted her spayed...
Me: erm... no sorry we can't do that as that would mean incorrect medical history of your animal.
she: oh... can you then at least not put it on the bill?

hope he won't come back and blame us for the fact we've spayed their dog!
