I've just recently sat my osces and now my brain is going into overload thinking about the little mistakes I made during them! I felt prepared going in but i think nerves and the unfamiliar environment got to me a little more than i though it

RE: osce mistakes :(

Try not to get too stressed about this (easier said than done I know)

You were definitely correct to choose the yellow needle. Be thankful that there wasn't a green there as everyone wants to choose the green which is incorrect.

The L/R marker should hopefully not result in you failing that task providing that you achieved all the other criteria.

The gown issue was not your fault so I would not worry. The fact that the chief examiner wrote down your names shows that they will take this into consideration.

Good luck with your results!

RE: osce mistakes :(

Thank you guys! You've all really helped to put my mind at rest haha Only a couple more weeks to go before I know.. but even if I fail I know whats coming next time Good luck to all of you waiting on results! xx

RE: osce mistakes :(

So I just did them as well- and I checked with someone I know who is an examiner and firstly, they should have given you another gown so the fact you asked for another one (as long as you didn't break sterility) you should be absolutely fine. You are also supposed to use the yellow! But, with the radiography one- what happens is it goes on average, so even if you passed all the grey areas but every single person got 100% throughout the weekend in all different centres then you would not pass- but to look on the bright side- the likelihood of that is small- so you should be absolutely fine! The wait is killing me- good luck! x

RE: osce mistakes :(

Hey,

I don't go on this site much but just saw this so I thought I'd be of help.

I did them last week so I know exactly what you're going through. I think you will be fine, The gown situation wasnt your fault and it happened to others so I'm sure the examiners will take this on board. Not too sure about the radiography one. And yes it's the yellow needle, I had a blue and two yellow needles of different shades (I'm hoping I chose the correct one) but I don't think it's a critical step and I don't think you would fail on this.

Best of luck

RE: osce mistakes :(

Thank you so much for your reply, hopefully I will be ok, I feel much better about the whole situation now! Not the end of the world if I need to resit :) Thank you again xx

RE: osce mistakes :(

I know its easier said than done, but don't worry, if you did well in your other tasks then you should be ok
- gowning & gloving, so long as you did it as you should the fact that it was packaged incorrectly wasn't your fault & if others complained it may be awarded anyway.
- radiography, so long as you completed all the other points, again you should be fine, as the l/r marker is not a grey area you should only lose minor points,
- the amoxicillin injection was right, according to one of the compendiums it should be administered with a 19g needle (yellow) and you should have been taught that - imagine trying to give it through a 22g needle it would sting a lot more due to the pressure that would need to be applied to get the thick substance through the narrow needle.

I hope this helps and Good luck, and just so you know, I passed on my 3rd attempt (due to inadequate osce training)
