I am looking on advice please. I am 30 and have a child. Imy husband and I are planning a second. I have been given the oportunity to train as a vn as I currently work at a vets. I am getting quite sttessed at the prospect that I may fall

RE: Training while pregnant

Beyond other's comments, I'm not sure how you would do your radiography training if you were pregnant - it's illegal for a pregnant person to be in the controlled area so it would be pretty tricky to do unless the college allows simulations for these. I presume this issue must have cropped up before but I've never known a pregnant SVN so not sure how it would work.

RE: Training while pregnant

If you have the opportunity to train to be an RVN then for me an ANA position would be a huge compromise. I think the veterinary world is slowly changing, and the qualification is becoming more recognised, so if you have the opportunity then go for it, as once you have the qualification then it will always be with you. Whilst Ana's do a fab job and are an important part of the team not being able to do the schedule 3 procedures can be frustrating! Our current Ana is now our student VN:-). Saying that if completing your family is most important then I wouldn't try and do both as the training is really tough even without a child, and i think it would be unfair on your practice if you went ahead with training and they invested in this then you couldn't complete the course. Although I'm not sure what your options would be for putting training on hold whilst your on mat leave. Maybe the ana qualification might be a better option now, then consider becoming an RVN at a later date when family life allows.

RE: Training while pregnant

Do you kno what this sounds perfect for me. Thank you. Just need to approach it with my employees and see how they feel :)

RE: Training while pregnant

I'm an ANA and have recently been made Head Nurse at my practice. So definately benefits the practice.

ANA's do pretty much the same as RVNs except schedule 3 work, eg catheter placement, taking bloods etc.

Could be the compromise you need?

Plus, the ANA course has changed since I did it, there are no exams anymore, just coursework and caselogs.

RE: Training while pregnant

I have been toying with this but we were so set on having our last before thr gap got much bigger. I have looked at the ana course as I feel ai could do the 2 if the situation arrised. I dont really know much about anas. Is it a job that benefits the practice?

RE: Training while pregnant

Can you hold off trying for your second until youve trained?
