I'm looking at job openings and I'm a little confused with all the different wording.

i arrived in the Uk as a QVN as I have a qualification from another country. I then did my OSCE's that allow me to be an RVN. But before doing my OSCES's I was still a qualified nurse with a recognised qualification although not an RVN. Make sense?

i think perhaps practices that are looking for QVN's may be looking for a nurse with a qualification and not necessari an RVN

RE: QVN vs RVN what's the difference?

Hi,

I'd say, nothing, these days, when ALL fully qualified veterinary nurses must be Registered with the RCVS to perform Schedule 3 procedures under the Veterinary Surgeons Act.

I think it must be a throw back to recent-ish times when qualified veterinary nurses performing Schedule 3 procedures under the Veterinary Surgeons Act could stay as a Listed nurse and elect not to be a Registered nurse, (with the accountability/CPD reporting that is required). Both Listed and Registered veterinary nurses worked superbly efficiently, were qualified and perfectly able to perform the job equally well but the RCVS ruled we ALL became Registered to be able to perform Schedule 3 procedures... So, historically, when looking to hire a veterinary nurse, employers would use the umbrella term 'qualified' veterinary nurse which would then cover everyone's status, (Listed or Registered) in a job-ad.

Another thought - - - perhaps 'qualified' in the sense of 'experienced' animal nurse, rather than Registered Veterinary Nurse? You'd need to speak to the practice placing the ad to ascertain who they are looking for. There are lots of animal nurses out there with masses of relevant experience that get snapped up by practices when they cannot find an RVN, or, out of preference.

Unless anyone else out there can add a different reason?!
