We switched from raw back to a good quality kibble as our shepherd just wasn't maintaining his weight and wasn't enjoying it anymore. We gave some kibble in a bowl and still gave him raw and just reduced it so that he was having bits of raw here and there until he was back on all kibble if that makes sense (he wasn't on a premixed raw diet, we made up all our own meals from the local butchers).

He (and our others) do still have the odd bit of raw as a treat now and then, but he did okay having it mixed - he put all his weight back on and even better, is maintaining it!

Hi,

I feed raw and dry and have no set plan for how I do this. I happily mix raw and dry together regularly without issues. That is how we used to do it in the various show and breeding kennels I worked in back in the 90s and we fed all the show dogs (various breeds) on a mixture of raw tripe, raw beef and wheat based mixer biscuit. I wouldn't get hung up over the need to separate.

I raw feed my dogs currently and have never changed back to kibble but if I did I would probably do it by feeding the last raw meal then giving something like the nature's menu tins or nature diet trays I think they're called wet food for the next day or so then gradually over the next week phase out the wet food and reintroduce kibble then it's a bit more gradual for them to adjust, the nature's menu tins are I believe the closest processed food to raw if that makes sense so I'd probably do it that way to give them time to adjust gradually
