The owner is very good and doesn't want this to escalate further so would like some help in bringing the weight back down. The owner is feeding natures diet beef as the dog

RE: Weight clinic and natures diet

Natures menu have a CPD course you can do, it's broken into 4 modules and you get 8 hours CPD from it. In the last module they cover different diseases in cats and dogs including obesity.

I found it very interesting as it covers general nutrition as well and is worth looking into. You could also phone Natures Menu and see what they would advise.

RE: Weight clinic and natures diet

Nature Diet is just a high meat content wet food, hypoallergenic, it comes in chicken and rice, lamb and rice etc, as far as I know its not a food for working dogs, I feed this to my Rough Collie with a dry mixer which keeps her total protein intake to less than 20% which is fine for normal pet dogs. The protein content per pack of Nature Diet is only around 10% which isnt too high, but it has real meat in it, unlike tins and pouches etc which are mostly water. I dont think its suitable to be fed along with a complete dry dog food though as most of them are over 20% protein and are designed to fed with nothing else added.

RE: Weight clinic and natures diet

Actually I have no expeience of this particular food, but I also thought the whole point of a 'working dog' diet was that it is higher calorie for 'working dogs'! So am quite surprised by this. I would double check it.
