PSA David you appear to work somewhere which has quite a formal pay structure based on Qualification levels, I think it's fair to say most practices pay structures are a lot looser and pay rises not necessarily guaranteed unless previously stated in a contract.

RE: wages whilst training query :)

that would be obvious, as a student being unqualified you was not paid the equivalent that that of Qualified wage. this increases on qualification to the second year and then to a RVN. pay levels are there for reasons. to reflect and respect the qualities and qualifications.

RE: wages whilst training query :)

Student nurse is lower than average wage though isn't it

RE: wages whilst training query :)

Hi

Totally not normal in my opinion, and agree with Chinchin practices should be moving with the times, and am very grateful to be working in one that appreciates both its RVN's and student nurses. Student nurses should not and are not free labour. In my last and current practice the nurses were paid a student nursing wage, which was obviously less then a QVN wage, but they were paid for there college days, and not deducted wages. In both practices they were also given a pay rise after passing first year then again after qualifying. Three days college a week does seem excessive though, so would possibly look into another course to see if this could be reduced to one, so if the practice refuses to pay wages then at least this is less money to lose. Also look into funded schemes, which often help practices with costs of college fees depending on the student age as think they need to be less then 25, but this might then help with the situation. If not then I would be looking for another practice as even when I trained 14 years ago I was NOT deducted wages for my college day release, but paid a student nurse wage....

RE: wages whilst training query :)

Hi Luan, are there any other colleges that offer the course with less time out of practice? I go to college one day a week and I haven't had any wage deducted. I got a pay rise end of last year also as my practice appreciates me. It irritates me when some people say well it's only fair they are doing you a favor. Get with the times! How are people expected to support themselves on a rubbish wage. Do people not realize that some of us pay rent and bills and look after ourselves. I know this job is usually classed as a vocation but in this day and age people are entitled to a decent wage to get by. It's always the older nurses who say well its fair enough and that's probably because you have support from family members or husbands that earns a decent living.

RE: wages whilst training query :)

when I was training I got paid a training nurse wage. and was not deducted for attending college.

RE: wages whilst training query :)

[quote user="luan riach"]
