Hi Mrs D, no the tax rules are just the same over the border.

Heather you can claim it ,I do. I also claim my rcvs fees, and I claimed my tax on cpd fees as well. But I am a locum so have to pay for my own cpd.

Hey! They never asked me that at all! Sorry! They just checked to see whether a VN was on their list of offficial uniform washers or something along those lines. I would double check cos 1 of our vets claims for her work clothes and also one of our nurses has done for years- no questions asked as far as I know. And no logos.

Heather - I was told (and did) that you can claim for up for the last 6 years. I've just rejoined the BVNA which is classed as a professional subscription which you can also claim for, as well as RCVS subscriptions. I should think you can ask them to reassess your tax for previous years to include prof. subs and clothes washing... just beware they may find an underpayment for tax as well, which they did for me one year!!!

Just realised that you both are in Scotland so will the tax rules and regs be slightly different?

How far back can you claim for? Ca you claim if you are no longer in practice/at a different practice?

I remember this post being up here ages ago and I tried to claim - sent 3 letters to tax office and phoned numerous times and nothing!! They're quick enough to take our money every month but not keen on giving it back!!!

Say just that... make sure you have your national insurance number on hand... vet nurses are on their official list of uniform washers!

That's what I'm trying to say... I'm not a locum, I'm PAYE and all you need to do is contact your tax office and they will change your tax code after relevant form filling
