The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “ Give legal protection to the professional title 'veterinary nurse' ”.
Government responded:

With the current lack of RVNS anyway.. protecting the title would put a fair few people out of a job and even more vet surges understaffed.

RE: Protecting veterinary nurse title

I agree, with such a mix of nurses it would have been impossible to 'protect the title'. I however disagree that nurses are trying to force their qualifications upon employers. When I undertook my training, I was completely oblivious that you could be a nurse without having completed a course?! Had I have known that maybe I wouldn't have my qualification now?

Great idea! lump the vet nurses in with some of the extremist nutters that will certainly raise the profile of vet nursing

This was a joke Sal..... Though perhaps it doesn't come across to all as such...

RE: Protecting veterinary nurse title

Thank Gawd for common sense! sorry but this was never going to work anyway - there are too many nursing staff without qualification and too many employers not wanting the qualification that some of nurses are trying to ram down their throats and no absolute requirement for practices to employ qualified nursing staff.

So now people have wasted their time over this one maybe its time to look at something that is important - and that would be to ensure that all nursing staff have a basic, recognised training and access to it as part of their employment (I am thinking along the lines of VNA or VCA - and please leave this qualification alone, it doesn't need 'improvement, 'amendment' interference from VN Council / anybody else who wants to tamper with it or generally ballsing up like the veterinary nursing qualification has been - its a good basic qualification dont ruin it!).
I'm still shocked by the lack of support within the veterinary profession though (only 21,000 signatures?!)
I did say when this first came out that not everybody supported it even within the profession - perhaps people will start listening to what others have to say now rather than ignoring them . This was never going to be that important in the scheme of things it would have made no difference to anything. To the average Joe out on the street they only care about what they are having to pay - the title means nothing to them until something goes wrong and they are looking round for somebody to blame. I have to wonder whilst folks were busy rallying support for this one what else was being decided/planned on our behalf that we will find about at a later date if we are lucky?
Maybe we should get the animal rights groups on board - they know how to rally the troops!!
