I am a fellow dyslexia student and it have took me longer to learn it all. What I used to do is type a sheet for npl and print it off, what I could do that week at work, so it was they for me to forced on. As I found that it confused having it all on a computer screen in different sections

With the assignment I used to write a copy then type it on the computer, I then used read text for me to correct my own work. After this I would get a fellow nurse to read and correct it and made sure I cover all the points before having it check again by the college person.

Hope this helps and tell the student never give up andon't you can always message me on here for any help or advise.

RE: Dyslexia - How can we help our student

If she needs help reading, there are a few dyslexic-friendly fonts which make all the letters look individual and stop him from muddling them up. I don't remember the names so you'll have to give them a google, but I would ask her if she would find them useful - you can download them into word, so you could put the OSCE sheets into word and convert them to a different font, for example. Plain old comic sans can be pretty good too.

**All recommendations from my dyslexic little brother, I would never want to tread on any toes!

RE: Dyslexia - How can we help our student

Have she tried a scribe pen? its a digital pen that actually writes what you write in ink on paper, but also records it digitally so you can plug it in to your computer and it generates a text document from it. it also records audio while you write, so she could say what she means as she writes it, that way when you read over the document you can listen to what she said at that point..might help with proofreading, and general revision?

the one ive seen used was called a livescribe smartpen, but looking online they seem quite pricey. £120 or so on ebay..

It's taken me a while to understand how I learn and remember things I am taught. I presuming from my own experience, if she is able to have a reader during exams she has been tested for dyslexia. Normally within the reports for the individual given after these tests it explains where the person struggles and succeeds in areas. They also give a summary which explains how to help the person with dyslexia to get the best out of them. Each person with dyslexia copes in different ways. The ways which have helped me in the past is colour coding, placing important words in bold (even hand written notes), flow charts, bullet pointing to make shorter points instead of long text. Etc. If you want any more help give me message.

RE: Dyslexia - How can we help our student

do you have a computer or laptop you could use with speech to text?
