For the past 7 years I have been working as a veterinary nurse. I love my job and would love to continue in this

RE: Moving from USA to UK

If you email my CV I can definitely look at a few places I know hire unqualified nurses who have relevant experience

RE: Moving from USA to UK

The only problem with that is that I need a permanent job contract so that my husband can move too. He is American and so for him to be able to obtain a family visa I must have a job contract that I can start within 3 months of moving.
I usually place international nurses as locums first. This is an easier entry option and provides UK experience. Feel free to msg me if you need help or advice getting a job :)

RE: Moving from USA to UK

I have noticed that most jobs that are advertised are for RVNs, but I'm not giving up hope!

Thank you for the info, it seems very different to how it is here in Florida.

RE: Moving from USA to UK

Hi Claire,

Yes plenty of practices will take you on as an unqualified member of staff if you have some good experience, and as said above, if you can find a training practice who will support you in attaining the qualification and registration then all the better!

If you wish to undertake certain procedures then you will need to be registered (see the Veterinary Surgeons Act Schedule 3 amendment or as described in the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct - 4.2 Veterinary surgeons must ensure that tasks are delegated only to those who have the appropriate competence and registration.) So aim high!

Also, whilst seeking work as somebody who is unqualified but experienced shouldn't be too much trouble, most vacancies advertise for Registered Veterinary Nurses.

RE: Moving from USA to UK

Experience goes further than qualifications in the uk it seems.

I've been vet nursing for 10 years and am not qualified.
Because of your experience it is likely you will be able to work in a vet practice as a unqualified veterinary care assistant, or kennel assistant. You will carry out many daily duties including cleaning, handling, in patient care etc.... Some practices will let you do de such as monitor anaesthetics, nurse clinics. I would send your CV to practices in Devon and see if they have any jobs. If you are interested in the degree then check out the links above on becoming a vet nurse.

Hope that helps
