I've just found out I am pregnant after having a miscarriage. In the first pregnancy I think my practice freaked out and took me off doing ops completely as well as having anything to do with x-rays which I understand. I always wear gloves when

RE: Pregnant in practice

Congratulations!

It's a while since I was last pregnant in practice but our place still allows you to assist in anaesthesia as long as it isn't masked anaesthetics. The obvious gloves for litter trays etc but also gloves for handling medications not in blister packs. I think there is a list of tetragenic drugs in the BSAVA small animal formulary but it's sensible to wear gloves anyway. I avoided all xrays. Generally it didn't effect my day to day job, it's just a case of being sensible, avoiding situations were you may be thrown about a bit by unruly animals. When I was pregnant with my son it was in the middle of the swine flu outbreak so they took me off nurse clinics to limit being exposed to it. They didn't do risk assessment as such in my day, maybe things might have to follow more procedure with regard to breaks etc.
