Just having a life dilemma and wondered if anyone had any ideas they can throw at me! Been a small animal nurse for 8 years before qualifying in reptiles, worked with them for 2 years then moved onto zoo animals abroad. Now I'm back in

RE: Life after nursing!

Plenty of vet clinics outside the UK if you fancy going overseas again! :)

RE: Life after nursing!

I did locuming for a couple of years so not sure I want to move around again like before.. Practice manager has crossed my mind before but I guess it's the costs of training for something new that stops me moving forward. I'm 30 now and have my debts with nursing obv not the best paid!

think I will try the list as you said, might come up with something I hadn't thought of! Thanks for the advice! :)

RE: Life after nursing!

Pet Insurance? There are plenty of positions regularly advertised up and down the country...

Have to say, did this myself for around 7-8 months whilst recovering from a bit of disillusionment and a work-related injury/stress. Did me a power of good... I realised I wanted to get back into nursing but this time with a stronger sense of self-preservation/protection and a goal to pursue what really fired me up and moving if I wasn't being fulfilled. So I locumed. Took me around another year to eighteen months to get finally settled. Glad I did it.

Another aspect would be training as a practice manager? Plenty of courses you could attend to get the necessary qualifications; even whilst continuing to work as a nurse to fund your education.

Alternatively, you might consider diversifying into human nursing/paramedic...

To decide what you're good at but perhaps don't realise it / it's not tested necessarily in your current work environment; sit down with a pen and paper and write down what you like to do / don't like to do. List all your skills; and that includes things like 'not afraid of heights' or 'can plumb a new sink in' or 'good at people skills' or 'drive a lorry' or 'bake cakes and pies that are wonderfully scrummy'... anything and everything. Then using all your likes/loves and skills - match them to a career if you can.

Good luck. happy times are ahead, I know it!
